Actos Informational I’m Dan Lapinski, an attorney with the law firm of Wilentz Goldman Spitzer. Today I would like to discuss the diabetes drug Actos. Actos or pioglitazone is a drug prescribed to individuals suffering from Type2 Diabetes, a condition which develops when the body does not produce enough insulin or does not efficiently use the insulin that it produces. The product has been on the market since 1999. On June 15, 2011, the FDA issued a safety announcement stating that the use of Actos for over a year may be associated with an increased risk of.
Bladder cancer. The FDA also reported that the risk of bladder cancer increased as the dose and duration of Actos use increased. Studies undertaken in other countries including Germany and France have also pointed to a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer and both countries have halted the use of Actos. The Canadian government is also undertaking a review. Common signs and symptoms of bladder cancer include pain while urinating, blood in the urine, back or abdominal pain, and urinary urgency. If you or someone you know took Actos and has been diagnosed with bladder cancer, please contact Wilentz Goldman Spitzer.
